Bogus Basin set for Summer Operations
After the longest winter in Bogus Basin's 80-year history, the non-profit is set to open for the summer this week.
Bogus will open it's summer operations Friday, June 23rd, staying open daily through August, before opening only on weekend September until October or snowfall.
Director of Mountain Operations Nate Shake spoke about the mountain's summer programs, noting that they've become a more integral part of Bogus' yearly operations.
"Summer activities are huge... we've done about roughly 100,000 visits in the summer and it's quite a large operation," Shake said.
While the non-profit's most popular attraction is it's skiing and snowboarding, it's summer offerings are more spread out to encourage people to make the 16-mile trip from Boise to Bogus.
"So we have the Basin Gravity Park, which is our lift-served gravity mountain bike park, which features trails with berms and jumps and features for those that want to come up and buy a ticket, and utilize the lifts to make laps of the gravity park."
In addition to the downhill mountain biking, Bogus operates "The Glade Runner", the state's only Mountain Coaster. Bogus also operates tubing (on a much smaller scale than winter tubing), a bungee jump-style trampoline, a climbing wall and other attractions. A full list of attractions, pricing, and times can be found here.
Bogus is also working to attract people with more than 100 events planned for the summer calendar.
"We have 106 planned events over the summer from music on the mountain... guided nature walks... scenic mountain bike rides and lots of trails," Shake said.
However, the largest addition to the park is it's new ropes course. It's called "The Mineshaft Challenge Course." The course is 53 feet tall, spanning three different levels, ending with auto belay drop zones or ziplines from the treetops down to the forest floor.
"It's super fun," Shake said. "Super fun and exciting. It's got three levels of challenge increasing as you go up. Each level, you can choose to try the obstacles or go around them and go to the top of the course and exit via a zipline."
While Bogus' summer operations start Friday, the ropes course will not open until Saturday, July 1. Additional staff are being trained on how to utilize the course safely so that it can operate smoothly upon launch.
