Tragically, on February 23, he was shot and killed on the spot by Keith Melvin Moses. Dylan’s family and friends are left to mourn his passing and remember his remarkable contributions to journalism.
Spectrum News is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Dylan, one of the talented reporters. On Wednesday, Dylan and his photographer Jesse Walden were shot while covering a shooting in Orlando. Tragically, Dylan did not survive, and our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Dylan Lyons was a talented journalist born in Orlando, Florida, on March 11, 1998. He grew up in the city alongside his sister Rachel Lyons and attended the prestigious Dreyfoos School of The Arts. He majored in Communications, minored in Theatre, and actively participated in several school activities and societies.
During his time at Dreyfoos School of The Arts from 2012 to 2016, Dylan was involved in the school’s newspaper, DSOA Today, where he served as Executive Producer, Director, and Talent. He was also a member of the National English Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars.
After graduating from the Dreyfoos School of The Arts, Lyons attended the University of Central Florida, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Political Science between 2016 and 2019. Dylan was an active student during his time at UCF, and he was involved in various activities and societies.
One of his notable accomplishments was serving as a two-term president of the Radio Television Digital News Association at the University of Central Florida.

While at Dreyfoos School of The Arts, Dylan served as an Executive Producer for DSOA Today’s Morning Show from August 2015 to May 2016 in West Palm Beach, Florida. As Executive Producer, he managed the studio and supervised individuals working on the morning show broadcast.
From January to May 2018, he served as News Intern at WMFE 90.7 in Orlando, Florida, and after that, he joined “WFTV” as Intern, but his life began changing when from May 2018 to January 2019, Lyons served as a Sports Editor/Reporter for Knight News in Orlando, Florida. His responsibilities included covering news and sports stories related to the University of Central Florida.
While working at “Knight News,” he also worked as President of the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) in Orlando, Florida, from August 2017 to April 2019, but to enhance his skills in 2020, he did Public Administration in Public Administration and Master of Science in Criminal Justice at University of Central Florida and here Dylan worked as Anchor & Reporter.
